All of this was founded in Malta with a simple belief: the most powerful stories are the ones you help craft.
At the time of its creation, long-form immersive experiences were largely absent from the local creative landscape. While theatre, tabletop roleplaying, and fiction-based communities existed, there were few opportunities for participants to step inside the narrative itself and physically engage with a story shaped by their own decisions.
Nephilim set out to change that.
The collective was founded with the ambition of creating a form of interactive storytelling inspired by immersive theatre, collaborative role-play, and narrative design. Rather than placing an audience in front of a stage, Nephilim builds environments where participants step directly into the narrative, shaping the course of events through their actions.
Conceived by co-founders Jason Micallef and Myron Ellul, the studio’s first universe, Echoes of Destiny, was developed as Malta’s first long-form immersive experience inspired by the morally complex tradition of dark fantasy popularised by works such as Sapkowski’s Witcher saga and its adaptations. Influenced by literature, theatre, game design, and collaborative storytelling, the aim was to create something more than a game: a shared narrative experience in which every participant becomes part of the unfolding legend.
With backgrounds in storytelling, worldbuilding, theatre performance, and interactive design, the founders set out to build an experience that blended the narrative depth of role-playing with the atmosphere and physical immersion of live performance. The intention was to create a world where characters could inhabit a shared setting across multiple chapters, allowing stories to unfold organically through interaction rather than through a fixed script.
From the beginning, the design philosophy behind Echoes of Destiny centred on interconnected storytelling. In the world of Veilmoor, every character is a thread within a larger tapestry. Alliances form, betrayals ripple outward, and choices made in a single moment can echo across the entire narrative. Rather than following a predetermined path, the story evolves through audience interaction, creating a living chronicle shaped by many perspectives.
This approach combines elements of immersive theatre and narrative game design. Participants step into characters with their own motives, loyalties, and secrets, navigating a world filled with factions, mysteries, and competing ambitions. The organisers guide the broader arc of the world, but the direction of the story itself ultimately belongs to those who inhabit it.
Bringing such a world to life requires more than writing alone. Echoes of Destiny blends narrative design with practical craft, from costuming, props, and environmental storytelling to live performances, interactive quests, and atmospheric encounters. Each element is designed to support immersion, allowing participants to remain fully in character as the story unfolds around them.
Since its first chapter, the series has brought together audiences and creators from multiple countries, transforming the small fictional hamlet of Veilmoor into a meeting point for adventurers, storytellers, and world-builders alike. What began as an experiment in immersive storytelling has grown into a collaborative creative community.
While Echoes of Destiny is currently Nephilim’s primary universe, it represents only the beginning of a broader vision. With continued support, the studio hopes to explore new worlds and stories built upon the same guiding philosophy: interconnected characters, meaningful choices, and narratives shaped by the people who inhabit them.
At its heart, Nephilim Creations is not only about the worlds we build, but about the people who gather within them; players, performers, and creators alike, each adding their own thread to the tapestry of the story.
